What is a Digital Media Streamer?
Sunday, December 23rd, 2007A digital media streamer or digital media receiver is a home electronics device which allows you to access media files from your computers on your home entertainment equipment. It allows you to play songs stored on your computer on your stereo system or watch video through your television.
The digital media streamer connects to your home computer network either wirelessly or through an ethernet connection. Once connected the digital media streamer will allow you to browse and access the media files on networked computers. Some digital media streamers are file-type specific and can only access either music or video files, others allow a larger variety of file types.
Some digital media streamers have on-board displays for browsing files and controlling the system, others have remote controls with touch screen displays. Using multiple digital media streamers it is often possible to control music systems throughout you home using a single remote control.
